The registration number is what shows the drug has passed the Food and Drug Administration review process that has efficiency and safety according to the standards.
How do I know if a product is registered as a medicine?
We can see it on the side of the package, label or pill pack. It will say Reg. No. followed by a series of numbers and letters as follows:

– The numbers 1 or 2 that precede the letters are for modern medicines only. They have the following meanings:
- Number 1 means a drug that has a single active ingredient.
- Number 2 means a drug that has 2 or more active ingredients.
– Next is the letters A – N, meaning as in the table below.

– The next digit is the number in the order of registration of the drug formula.
– The last two digits mean the year (in Buddhist era) of registration.
For Example
- 1A 12/35 means modern medicine for humans manufactured in Thailand. There is only one active ingredient. The registration number was 12 in year 1992. (2535 B.E. = 1992 A.D.)
- 2C 234/45 means modern medicine for humans import or ordered into Thailand. There are two or more active ingredients. The registration number was 234 in year 2002. (2545 B.E. = 2002 A.D.)
- 2D 55/56 means modern medicine for animals manufactured in Thailand. There are two or more active ingredients. The registration number was 55 in year 2013. (2556 B.E. = 2013 A.D.)
- G 21/29 means traditional medicine for humans manufactured in Thailand. The registration number was 21 in year 1986. (2535 B.E. = 1986 A.D.)
In addition, some drug registrations have appended parentheses, such as (N), (NG), which indicate additional attribute. has the following meanings:

- 1A 55/58 (NG) means modern medicine for humans that is a new generic drug manufactured in Thailand. There is only one active ingredient. The registration number was 55 in year 2015. (2558 B.E. = 2015 A.D.)
