Thai food registration number is food product identification number. It consists of 13 digits displayed within the FDA’s mark. This food number identifies important information about the place and food product information. It makes it easier for regulator to monitor, especially in case of problems but it is not a symbol used to guarantee the quality of the product as advertised. It only means that the food has been registered or licensed as required by regulation only.

Which products must have a food registration number?
Products that must have a food registration number include 3 groups of food according to the regulation: Specifically controlled food, Food prescribed quality or standards and Food that must be labeled.

It can be seen that general food such as grilled pork sold in the market or food that we make ourselves at home does not need a food registration number.
Composition and meaning of the number in food registration number system
The food registration number system consists of 13 digits in the frame of the FDA logo. Each digit has the following meanings.

1st-2nd digit means the province where food production or food imports are located. The number have following meanings:

For example 11-X-XXXXX-X-XXXX means the location of the food production or importing are located in Samut Prakan Province.
3rd digit refers to the status of the place and the authorized authority (use numbers 1 – 4 to represent the status) as follows:

3 | Food import place which is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration. |

For example 11-2-XXXXX-X-XXXX means the food production facility located in Samut Prakan Province which the province is issues the license.
4-6th digit means the number of food production premises or the number of places where food is permitted to be imported.
7-8th digit means the last number of the year permitted, for example the number 56 represents 2013. (2556 B.E. = 2013 A.D.)
For example, 11-2-00556-X-XXXX means the food production facility located in Samut Prakan Province which received the fifth permission in the year 2013 and the province is the one who issues the license.
9th digit means the agency that licenses the product or the agency that issues the food registration number of that product (use numbers 1 – 2 instead of the agency) as follows:

10-13th digit refer to the order of food produced by the food production facility or imported by each food importing place (use four digits) separating by authorized agency according to the 9th digit
For example 11-2-00556-1-0009 means the food production facility located in Samut Prakan Province which received the fifth permission in the year 2013, the province is issues that license, and this product is the ninth of food produced by this food facility, the Food and Drug Administration is the one who issues the food registration number.
